Factory A/C Charge Amount
I have a 1988 Toyota Pickup with A/C. In preps to get it working properly again I need some information. My 1987 4Runner has a yellow sticker on the core support right in front of the radiator which states the proper A/C charge amount. My Pickup is missing this sticker. 4Runners have a larger condenser than Pickups so I don’t think the 4Runner charge amount can be used on the Pickup. Can someone with a Pickup snap a picture of the A/C label for me?

Are you charging your A/C system with R12 or R134a?
If you are charging with 134a, it looks like the 4Runner and Truck get the same charge, according to the 1998 Toyota R134a retrofit TSB.
4Runner:
1986-1989:
1986-1988:
I don't know about how much R12 charge to put in. I am not near my FSM at the moment.
I would have thought the 4Runner would take a slightly higher charge too, but I guess not.

Useful info there. I'm actually going to be keeping the system R12 for maximum performance so I'd rather charge it to what was originally on the sticker on the truck back in 1988. I know for the fact the Pickup and 4Runner have different size condensers so unless I see a sticker from a Pickup that's identical to my 4Runner, I'm going to assume they take a different charge amount.

Thanks for the picture. I guess I should clarify, I need a picture from a 1984-1988 Pickup. The later body style uses a different condenser so I can't be sure the volume of the two systems is the same.

Has anyone replaced there Expansion Value that's inside the coil's (inside the Cab)
I recently replaced the dyer - compressor, all the O-rings but I couldn't source the right expansion value with the right threads. I tried Amazon, Autozone, Napa, and a few other's but nothing locally had it. Not sure if I can test my original one or not.
Be great to hear some into into this simple part.
Thanks

I bought one from Rock Auto. Four Season 48616. I would have bought a Denso if I could find one. The Four Seasons brand one has different threads but comes with an adapter. It's not really what I would call perfect since it is one more connection and O-ring that could leak, but once the adapter is on it fits and works the same. A/C has been charged and blows nice and cold. 40 degrees out the center vents on a 90 degree day.
Just an update for anyone who finds this thread in the future. I charged my 1988 Pickup 22RE with R12 to the capacity at the low end of the range for a 1987 4Runner. I was hoping that there was some overlap in the ranges for each vehicle. I later bought an old A/C book which has a large index of charges for many vehicles. This book, similar to a Haynes manual, is not Toyota specific so there may be occasional errors. It lists Pickups and 4Runners using the same charge amount.
