My scoop actually helps keep my sc cooler when cruising. I've thought about cutting some slits in the back of the scoop to help suck out the under hood heat.

My retired mechanic of a father told me that when cruising at highway speed, the turbulance created by the windshield will actually force air INTO a cowl hood. Hence why some muscle cars back in the day had "cowl induction" It still forces cool air in, but without all the bugs and other crap.

Can anyone verify?

from what I know , cowl hood actually works like a vaccuum . because of arodynimics flowing threw the front and under the body , a cowl hood will "suck" in air and vent it under the vehicle .

we have a cowl hood , but we lost the underside in a fire a while back ..... I have the only "complete" one in existance on my truck

we havent rebuilt the underside , because most people didnt want a cowl hood ? they wanted a front facing hood scoop .. so with that we built a "bolt on" hood scoop , which can also be moulded to the hood . Very popular , and cheep to ship

Love the truck!!
I have a 08 Taco, took out the filler sheild under the scoop. I have no doubt tons of cool air go in, cause the intake manifold is now only luke warm after coming off the highway! used to be quite toasty (of course) with all the hot air trapped inside...I would have to believe the ram air in the scoop forces its way down over the top of the motor and out the rear bottom.
BTW, the camo trailblazer pic found on this site has a 1970 formula firebird scoop bolted on it...is functional and flexible. I know, lol. I built it....

slacker,you built that blue truck?

That is one bad ass truck. Is that a 95?It looks like the same body lines on my truck.Oh by the way slacker spent another two hours reading your build post, awesome.I cheated though and couldnt take the suspense so I went to the last page to look at the end result. But hey I did read 35 pages before I did.Got to get some rest been tearing apart a 3.0 all day and priming my new old hood so I can start the hood scoop tomorrow on the experimental hood.Thanx all for the hood scoop conversation, that and slackers thread lit a fire under my ass.

yes , that is our scoop , im sure it's just the pic maybe shadows or such

as mentioned , it is a "bolt on" , but you can mould it to the hood using the right products , you'll have no problems with seperation or delamination

build thread for the body

By any chance does anyone have any pictures of the hood scoop on first generation 4runners? It shouldn't be too much different but just curious. I'm glad I saw this thread, I'd much rather pay $125 from a reputable dealer like ToyotaFiberglass instead of paying $75 from ebay!

I hope slacker starts making those hoods again. I would love to add the hood scoop to the cowl hood
