Exhaust system
#2
I had just the stock system with a Flowmaster 40 series welded on with 2.25 inch tubing. This was a Cat-Back system and I enjoyed it very much. The whole cat-back system was around $150 for me if I remember correctly. The system wasn't very loud though, it just gave it a nice low tone which is what I was looking for. I would recommend something similar if you aren't going for a super loud exhaust. I also averaged about 1-1.5 MPG better with the cat-back and I noticed a SLIGHT increase in power. But again, Toyota's aren't exactly known to be powerhouses anyways.

I run a hooker header with 2.5" piping to the back, and a 3" magnaflow muffler. It's a little on the loud side, has a deep raspy sound to it. I'm going to put a second muffler on it at some point. I just used what I had lying around. Total cost was like 100 bucks for the bends, pipe, and flanges. I welded it up myself.

I'll be keeping an eye on this one... i'm getting ready to do an all new header back setup on an 88 22RE of mine.
I was going to do a 2.5", no kitty, to a flow and out the rear, $280 installed, best price I could find near me. I need to get it done yesterday, my new O2 sensor ($114 sheesh) is supposed to be in tomorrow morning so I can finally proceed.

I had the LCE header, which was great. But the cat back was way too loud and ricey. But it did give me 2 1/4" pipe all the way through. Cut out the magnaflow and replaced with flowmaster 50 SUV. Much better. That same muffler sounds even better with the 3.4 in there.
Bob has the right idea. Easy peasy.

I've always wanted to try these http://www.spintechmufflers.com/muff...rs/cat_14.html But I have 40 series flowmasters on all my stuff (except the cherokee-magnaflow) and I'm not expecting them to "wear out" anytime soon. Plus I like the sound. So I will probably never get to try a spintech unless I have $80-100 burning a hole in my pocket.

I ran the LC header and 2.25 all the way with magnaflow..it was just to loud..ran it that way for a month...ended up hooking up brand new stock muffler with the tail pipe which bolted directly to the ectension pipe coming from the header. had to cut the tail pipe but it hooked directly up and I was able to use all of the stock hangers and brackets..has nice sound to it without being to loud and I didnt notice any change in performance..being able to use the stock brackets and hangers was a big help..so I have header with 2.25 all the way back to just in front of the rear axle where it goes into stock muffler..no cat on vehicle as that was stolen off the vehicle a while back...Yota runs better than ever before....G

I would install a resonator in the system too.I just added one to my stock exhaust that has had the cat removed and it filters all the high pitch raspy sound out of it and just leaves a nice deep tone. They are only 15 bucks at autozone but they are special order. The 18" one fits perfect were the cat would be with plenty of room around it.
