I searched but couldn't find anything on this subject.

I have a 1987 4Runner that I'm dropping a rebuilt engine into. While I'm at it, I want to replace the entire exhaust line. The two bolts at the catalytic converter are rusted out and I can not get them out. I have a "hold on" set of specialty sockets to deal with the grip issues between rust and rounded heads. Even with pneumatic tools, I can't seem to get these bolts to go.

I'm trying to avoid cutting the brackets out. I'm not worried about damaging the old line, I have an all new set up for it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

have you tried heating then and adding some pb blaster? if that don't work cut the nuts off with a cutoff tool.

 

when ever i have a problem after ive tired every thing i go to the shop down the road and pay them like $5 to break bolt for me with air and there always happy to help for alittle cash.

a well-placed cold chisel and a big-assed ball peen hammer always works for me

 

Heat it up with a simple propane torch and quickly quench it with water. do this a time or two and you should be able to back em right out.
