Is it worth the time to put a flex coupler on a 22re? It seems like there is a lot of stress on the long exhaust line that has no give and doesn't seem to fit perfectly in the first place.

I want to put a new exhaust manifold gasket on at some point because it seems to have a small leak. Wouldn't a flex link take a lot of stress off of the manifold bolts and make the repair more permanent? I see the leaks are common but there are different approaches to "the fix."

I could get a coupler like this one http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...t=flex+exhasut, but is the quality too poor or will clamping not work well/long? It is a '90 PU if that matters.

 

flex couplers are generally not used on longditudal oriented engine configurations. This is because most of the movement is twisting, not bending as you would find in a transverse engine application.

 

A muffler bearing joint could also be used. This allows the rotation of the manifold relative to the rest of the exhaust system.
