Engine won't come out!!

Well I have my 89 22re completely disconected and on the hoist ready to be pulled. It has seperated about 1 inch from the tranny but it wont come out any farther. I have tried pushing the clutch in but there is no clutch feel so I am guessing that the pressure plate is far enough off the shaft. Any tips on how to get it completely out? Anyone ever have this problem? It seems to be hanging up on the clutch plate but I cannot seperate the it.

Thanks

Sounds like the pilot bearing is siezed to the trans input shaft.

No suggestions on how to separate though.

Assuming that the tranny is still secured in the truck, I would recommend GENTLY wiggling the engine, while pulling it away from the transmission. You are dealing with a close tolerance fit, and the engine and tranny need to be exactly in a straight line to each other to remove and install them. If you haven't, already, put a floor jack under the front of the transmission to help stabilize it, and keep it from falling when the engine comes off.

Do not try to use your clutch again, as you will probably blow out the seals, and check them when you do get it apart for damage.

wiggle and pull, make sure you have some plywood protecting the condenser in the front.

The tranny is still bolted in the truck I am gonna try to jack up the front of the tranny and see if that works.
When you say that the seals may be blown did you mean the slave cylinder seals? I will have to look out for that.

Just curious. Is it normal with a 4runner to pull the engine with the tranny still attached to the vehicle?

With other vehicles I've either removed the tranny first or pulled the engine and tranny out as a unit.

You can do it either way, with the appropriate amount of tilt.

I'd recommend a "load leveler" - it's likely you're pinching something.
The transmission should have a jack under it to take the pressure off the input shaft.
