Engine an tranny removal help

Hey i have a 1995 toyota 4runner with a bad motor so we are replacing it with the same new stock one. We are at the stage were we are ready to take it out, should i leave the tranny in the truck( automatic truck) or should i leave the tranny on the engine and pull them both out together. Any info on this you would have would be great! thank you

umm... i think your gonna have to remove both of them seperately... i dont believe you can pull the engine and tranny in one piece. anyways, it would probably be easier to pull both. but if you plan on reusing the tranny without rebuilding it, disconnect it from the engine and leave it on the truck.

you can pull both and an easy way to do so is take the front tires off and lower the front end down onto blocks. this way the trucks bows down and is easy to pull both with the help of another person. you could leave the tranny but if you pull both this way you can torque the bolts easily while its all out and easy to work on.

It is possible to pull both at once if you haver an engine leveler on your hoist. Just check justinking's thread. If you don't have to pull both then if I was you I'd leave the tranny in. Theres crap to deal with no matter which way you go.

When I pulled mine I got under it and unbolted the flex plate from the torque converter. You will have to manually turn over the engine with a ratchet on the crank bolt and get one bolt at a time. There are 6 bolts...not too bad. This way you don't have to mess around with tranny fluid or anything. And no big mess when you pull out the torque converter.
