Engine starts and dies code 13

Hello,
I've got a 1994 4runner that I believe was originally 3.0 and was swapped to a 22re, which I believe is 86-87 because the ecu part number is 89661-35070. I bought it with no spark and not running, previous owner said it ran then didn't start after being parked for a couple months. There's evidence of mice being in the car but wiring harness looks OK. I swapped in a new dizzy and ignitor, and still no spark, then miraculously one day got spark, not sure why. Now it fires up and idles rough for a couple seconds, then dies. I duct taped a vacuum leak in the intake and it idles for longer before dying, and I adjusted the idle so it's a bit high but it still dies, and throws code 13 for NE signal, but tach seems to work well when it's idling. I'm suspicious of the wiring or ECU, not entirely sure how to check both properly though. Might also throw a fuel filter at it to see what happens. Any input appreciated!
Cheers

I'll try to upload a video of it starting then dying

Ignition system spark test linked below.

Grip the shaft of the distributor, and try to wiggle the shaft from side to side to check for play. Should be no play.

Thanks for the reply, I've already gone through that diagnostic when I wasn't getting spark. My distributor is brand new so no play, working well and if I spin the distributor off the engine it sparks every time, so I think it's either a weird wiring issue or something in the ECU. Or maybe clogged filter but I'm just about to swap that out.

I've attached a video of a startup. I think I might have a super weird and interesting problem here. I've tried jumping the fuel pump to ensure it stays on the whole time, and new fuel filter, so it has to be something electrical wiring or ECU related. Totally stumped here, almost ready to shell out for a new ECU and throw it at the car, but would like to try and diagnose something before I do that and it doesn't change anything. My theory is that maybe it's misfiring on one cylinder all the time, which could explain rough idle, then another cylinder or two drop out after a short time, causing the slow death. Spark seems too consistent, so it might have to be injectors that stop pulsing? Pretty stumped.

Okay so one fuel injector was unplugged that I was testing, so now it idles nicely for like 20 seconds and dies the same way lol. Also throwing code 52 now

the stock igniter in your photo is '89-'91, per the numbers on it... the rockauto aftermarket igniter in your photo has gray terminals, which also indicates that it's not for an '86... i know this because i have both stock and aftermarket igniters for my '86 and the terminal plugs are green... your truck also appears to have the straight plenum on the throttle body, which is more desirable but it's also late model, not available in 1986.

the codes changed in 1988, there is no code 52 for 1986 22re, the numbers stop at code 13... so where are you plugging in the jumper to pull the codes? https://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTr...es/index.shtml

either we are reading the ecu number wrong, or your 22re is some crazy frankenstein thing :-D

Hahaha okay well that's really good info about the igniters and plenum, yes I pulled the stock igniter from a parts truck so that makes sense, I don't have the stock igniter from my 22re. Are there slight differences in igniters that could cause a code 13 if I don't have the correct year igniter? I've double checked I'm jumping the correct diagnostic ports to pull the codes. Might be good to nail down what year 22re this is though... I have the block serial, or is there any other way to narrow it down? Prev owner didn't even know that it was engine swapped from a 3.0 lol.

It now idles nicely and won't die but shudders under throttle and has code 13 still.

well which is it? code 52 or code 13?

is this where you put the jumper wire to check the codes?

Unfortunately not, sold the truck running poorly. Pretty suspicious that it was TPS related but not sure
