Engine Stalling Mystery
Well, I almost have my truck running correctly, but I still have one problem that I havn't been able to figure out. After about 15-20 of idling, my engine stalls. It runs on the highway great, but as soon as i'm stuck in traffic, the engine starts stuttering and dies. It runs great at idle for the first 15-20 min without driving too. Here is some background on my truck:
-Weber 38 dgas carb
-Offenhauser intake manifold
-Holley red series fuel pump (regulator set at 3.5psi)
-New fuel supply line and filter
-NKG plugs and wires with an Accel coil
-Stock head and exhaust (saving up to upgrade later)
-Engine temp is normal
-Ignition timing is kinda weird... I've get it set at about 25 degrees. I've tried going lower, but the engine starts to run horrible. Tuning by ear leaves me at about 25.
I'm thinking that I might need a new distributor, but I wanted a little input before I start ripping my truck apart.

25 degrees !!!!!! WTF is supposed to be 0. I don't even think an RE motor will run at 25 degrees. Heck mine runs like crap at 5 degrees.
Have you had the dizzy out for any reason? Have you checked to make sure your dizzy was not a tooth or two or three off?
25 degrees is just insane.
Could also be a huge vacuum leak somewhere. Also you should be setting your ignition timing with the vacuum line to the dizzy blocked off. With the weber you should only be running 1 hose to it and it should be connected to the front most port on the dizzy. 0 with the lines disconnected and it should jump to about 15ish with slight throttle. Assuming you have the vac line connected to the weber (which is the correct way) and not directy to intake vacuum.

Yeah I know!!! 25 is insane, but it will barely run at 15 and stalls at 10. I've never pulled the distributor, and I set it just the way you say to... I'll Check the brake booster line for leaks, but it'd have to be a monster leak...lol I'm gonna pull the distributor and reset the timing.. i'll let ya know what happens.

So, I pulled off the valve cover and replaced the gromets, gasket, and the pcv... i was able to get the timing down to about 7 degrees.... way better then 25-30... its running pretty smooth, but its still stalling after long periods of idle. i'll figure this out one day...

Truck is finally running great! Turns out the Accel Coil I installed about 8 months ago burnt itself out. On start-up it would work, then would over heat and not work again till it cooled..... Explains why it would stutter and die after 20-30 min. Just finished installing an MSD and i'm loving every second in that truck now. Thank-you for all the comments and help you guys have posted. Its been greatly appreciated.
