engine rebuild 22r

I'm redoing my 89 toyota pickup 22r engine to put in my 86 4x4 pickup which is also a 22r but the 89 one has been redone mostly. I was asking for advise on some stuff i should do that is affordable lol. Looking at a lc engineering stage 2 cam and a new distributor with my 38mm carb. seeing if anyone else had any other ideas to make this truck kick some dodge and ford butt.

Might want to check out engnbldr.com, he comes highly recommended on YotaTech. Also, not sure what tire size you're running but regearing may help.

2 grand can do alot in way of naturally asperated. Turbo/super charger will kill that budget quick.

For 2G's you can punch it out, Engnbldr head, engnbldr cam, header, exhaust and injectors. Given, you spin the wrenches.

Many have said regearing makes the most noticeable difference...that is if you have 4.10's in and not 4.56's.

Guys usually go with 4.56's for 31" tires and 4.88's for 33" tires. If your truck came with 31" tires from the factory you will have either 4.56's or 4.88's depending on if your truck is manual or auto. If it came with 225's or 235's you'd have 4.10's. Check the door jam to see what tires came on your truck stock.

Definately check out this sticky here on YotaTech, there's a TON of useful info about gear swaps...https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...osting-204178/

Good luck!

Yeah put a GM 350 in it lol. jk Headers do sound good especially if you are going with a larger carb. Without actually doing a from the ground up rebuild you wont be able to get much more out of it. If you do decide to go the route of a complete rebuild and don't want to go turbo then try a high compression build. Works well with my civics chevys and crxs.

Also what dodge and ford are you trying to smoke because as far as I can tell my Yota with the stock 22re can out run Rangers on street and off road. If you are trying to race go two wheel drive and ditch the 4x4 IMHO.

I grew up in SE "Ahia" and can picture Tugger's truck racing a Dodge D50 and an 80s Ranger. The Toyota pulls away just past the third drive through liquor/tobacco store. (I grew up less than 5 miles from one-they're everywhere)

Seriously, scour Craigslist for a header and regear. If you didn't have factory 31's, then look for 4.56 3rd members. Then just keep it maintained, chasing power in these trucks can get expensive.

So, do you go to Ohio U? I'm currently applying there for my master's degree.

lol im saving the 90 4runner for a 350 (383 stroker in my dreams lol) but ya iv grew up with a 2wd 89 pickup with a 22r in it with a 38mm carb and i could always run up with everyone but i live where the rich kids have mommy and daddy buy them new trucks and i grown up doing it myself. My 89 got wreaked tho so i'm taking it out and putting it in the 86. Just want to get a little more torq out of the old girl so i can play in the mudd longer lol

ps im a toyota, chev fan so thats why i hate ford and dodge
