Engine Fault code 25..need help

After a week in sunny Mexico I come back to my runner and start it up. Seems to run ok with the higher rpm but as soon as I put it in drive, the idle gets very rough and (500-900 rpm) and I have slow acceleration. My gas was near empty so after sitting for a week I figuared it could be just the crap in tank messing with things, so I fill up and put some fuel system cleaner in the tank and hope for the best. No fix. It seems odd that as the rpms increase the smoother the engine runs but still pretty slow accleration, also another thing I noticed is that when I start sometimes, its as if the battery is dying. Ive only really checked the first and easiest thing the book says to do which is the the engine ground strap but its nice and tight. Before I left i replaced my battery terminals and had some problems with the negative, Ive got a hokie set up on it for now but its tight...any ideas?..my brain is still in vaction mode..cant think...still a blurrrrr...

A fuel filter and new battery cables? Your post needs some more specific details. Address the battery issue before going on to the slow acceleration problem. Do a volt drop test, load test the battery, alternator output, etc.

Agree with wrenchmonster. Have the battery AND the alternator checked a a local chain parts store.

Another possibility -- A varmit might have gotten in there and chewed on a vacuum line or two,, causing a leak. I discovered that a squirrel made a habit out of storing pecans in the engine bay of my 2002 Solara No gnawing, tho,, that I could see.

i agree with the others about the battery, but it sounds like a bad connection maybe to ground.

95 4Runner - same problem

I have just posted almost the very same problem with my 95 and after replacing the plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter, O2 sensor, and cleaning the throttle body I took it to the shop -
Here is what they said it was not - $120.00 later -

The CEL Code 25 - Air-Fuel Ratio Lean - they suspected an intake leak i.e. bad hose or fitting or bad intake manifold gasket

No intake leaks - I think they just sprayed starter fluid all over the place, but I am not sure. Maybe their diagnostic checked that as well

No blown head gasket - All cylinders 150-180 lbs.

All they finally told me was that the #6 plug was burning black so that cylinder was not firing as strong as the rest and it was the one that was down to 150 lbs on the compression check.

If you pull your plugs I suspect you will find the passenger side plug in the rear will be fouled, now the question is what is going on because I have run injector cleaner through mine as well with no help. I am about to pull the intake manifold this weekend and take those injectors out to be either cleaned or replaced. First I am going to try this Seafoam cleaning solution and I will keep you posted as to results.

thanks for the tips..I re-crimped my batery terminal and it got a little better, and the lite acutally went away...but, after a day or two of driving back to the same old running crappy, plus now ive got code 25 and 26..."lean mixture and rich mixture". Im going start with my fuel filter and also see if there is anything out there to pour into my tank which helps with water disspate water in the tank, seeing as it was sitting for a week with almost a empty tank im think and hoping that there is too much water in there somehow. Ill keep ya posted.
