Question ECU compatability question

Just wondering if the ecu's are interchangable. I know they all have different freaking numbers, so I don't know.

I found an 89 pickup 22re ecu. I have a 93 pickup 22re. Will that work? Does it have to have all the same features (4x4 and all that)?

Thanks!

There are a couple guys who work in Toyota dealerships in the parts department on YotaTech. I'd contact them, and politely ask. They will be able to cross reference part numbers and see supercedence of numbers to verify or deny compatibility.

I agree with wrenchmonster, I do beleive that in late 91 they made some changes, they went from 116hp to 117hp, and there some other minor differences. And in late 92 they went to a bigger clutch, not sure if anything else changed, or if it makes a difference.

this doesnt really answer your question but i've put an 87 ecu in a 8922re and i put something else in the same 89. However i now own a 93 22re runner and i find a lot of things aren't compatible between 80's toyotas and my 93 so it wouldnt surprise me either way. Doesnt really do anything to help you just wanted to feel important

Wasn't it in 1993 that they went from batch fire injectors to sequential? Odds are that would cause isses on an older motor.
Check here. I put this together a while back. Although it doesn't necessarily give an exact answer to the question, it does show how the numbers match up:
