Easy Fix for Spare Tire Winch - Carrier

Well, I havent seen alot of DIY's on how to fix the spare tire carrier / winch that always seem to go kaput, so I thought I would do a quick little run-through, with bad cell pix, on how I fixed mine...

First you need a big ol socket

Then some heavy washers that fit in the socket, with a few stack in first to get the right gap. (the lighter will come into play later, dont you worry)

Put in like so.....

Take 3 straws, make one super straw, stick your WD40 straw into that, and spray the daylightsout of the winch, then go grab your impact gun and extensions

Push the socket with washers onto the winch slot, connect the extensions you need, from behind the body, and start zapping the winch, forward and back, as a friend sprays the heck out of it.

Well, that was easier then spending $50 at a wrecker, or $100 brand new....

And the Felatio! Your Done! Grab above mentioned lighter to smoke your fav cigar/cigarette as you marvel at how frugal and cheap you can be!

After spraying some WD40 up into the winch, working it a few times, mine can now turn with one hand quite easily.
I will be putting a grease nipple on mine, to make sure I can always grease it, and insure this will never, EVER happen again.

This concludes Sundogs Slick n Cheap Fix for The Common Shmuck.

My 95 4x4 has the cable as well from the factory. I'm going to use this method to exercise it. I like the socket washer idea.

I couldnt find any other posts on how to free this up, but I was sure someone else had done this, its the most logical way to break it free.

Ill be posting pictures of my uber cool grease nipple extension to the winch

I took mine off and put in its place a spare wheel carrier from a current generation tundra. Works great.
