From what I can tell, there are two sets of cables for the e-brake.

There's the one that goes from the back of the handle, through the firewall, over the transmission, and over to a lever by the gas tank.

The other one goes from that lever to the back two wheels.

The cable that goes to my e-brake handle is the one that is messed up. It looks like the cable stop came off (or the p.o. Cut it when he put on the 3" body lift, instead of extending it, or just disconnecting it.)

I was wondering if I needed to just replace the cable, or if there was some sorta way to just add a cable stop to the end of the cable or something?

I've looked around for a replacement for the cable, and napa, auto zone, and oriellys don't seem to have it (they have the rear one, though). I was able to find another rear one in a guys garage recently, thinking it was for the front (dumb mistake, now that I've had a good look at the front one). Before I go to the stealership, I was wondering if it would be possible for the cable stop. I live in Texas so there are not a lot of hills, and whenever I do park on the hill, I always set the transmission after the brake takes hold, as a backup.

In the distant past, I had success re-soldering a brass cable stop onto a motor-scooter throttle cable.

But without having looked at it, I'm going to guess that the Emergency Brake cable is stainless steel, and you're not going to solder to that. Again, without looking at it, you might have some luck swedging a marine cable clamp to it, and then filing it to fit.

No matter what, it sounds like a lot of work to jury-rig a "safety" item.

 

Hmm, you're right about it not being a good idea to try to jury-rig a safety feature, so I will head to the dealership and see what price they have for the cable.

it is part# 46410-35340

 

Yeah you're better off just replacing it... job is'int too hard just a PITA to get to the clips where it runs over the tranny along the firewall and down the right frame rail. You'll need some metric flare nut wrenches to adjust the mounting nuts on the lever where the rear/front cables meet. If you need to remove the handle to get the cable into the handle one of the nuts is in the engine bay and the other is inside... I guess they did that for safety or something... I'm told you can do it with the handle installed but I found it easier to do it with the handle out.

 

I would check on line for that cable. Does the dealership charge shipping? I found that cable for 60.19 at Toyotapartscenter.net. You would have shipping, but it might save you a few dollars and Ive bought lots of stuff from them. Ask for Jim......
