I just swapped out the transmission being a little pressed for time. I was wondering if any body has left off that dirt shield on the back of the front driveshaft

I had run older Chevy and Ford products back in the seventies with nothing like that.

Kinda like the shields on trailer brakes help keep all the dirt in.

I don't think I've ever put one back on.

 

I didn't...kinda lets all the crap drain back out.

That's my theory, anyhow.

 

When I put a new transfer case in mine, I left the sheild off. Haven't had any problems.

 

Thanks that was kinda what I thought .

Make it a whole lot easier to grease.

 

The only other thing that shield might do is help keep the shaft from dropping to the ground if the cardan breaks.
