downy headers and starter

ok i just installed a set of downy headers i got used from a local seller. anyways i noticed after i installed it that one of the header pipes is mm away from touch a small part of the starter... this this normal. im sure im gonna have to get some exhaust wrap because thats just toooo close for me.

im not 100% done yet as i have an automatic and need to relocate the trans cooler.

A starter heatshield or wrap is a good idea. My DT headers are pretty close too. I used a Summit Racing generic starter wrap to shield mine.

I have the Downey headers, ceramic coated, on my rig.

I read a bit about this before putting them on and went with a starter blanket around the starter, some stick on heat shielding on the firewall on the passenger side, and a heat shield sleeve for the front e-brake cable where it passes near the header and exhaust routing. The e-brake sleeve came about after I melted the stock cable.

Go to Summitracing.com and search for starter blanket, they are not much money.

I have had no issues with my starter and the headers since I put the rig on the road 13k miles ago.

Sorry, no pics handy.
