i just installed one in my 22re
i love it ... sounds nice sucking in the air ... had to use a hack saw to shorten the chrome tube and drill a hole through the fender apron near where the stock filter bolted down ... no v6 3.0 though ... good luck

These are the only good shots I have. I took off the cast aluminum adapter and replaced it with the stock airbox.

Isn't that where the MAF is at? I've been thinking about this intake too but that's kinda weird with the stock airbox lid on there

There where some fitment issues that required machining to get the casting secured without wobbling around too much, and in the end I just didn't feel this would be a very reliable piece of equipment. There needs to be some flexibility between the VAFM and the throttle body or things will loosen up. When the engine rotates from torque the intake tract needs to be able to move. So off everything went. The fittings in the kit are also on the cheesy side and make the air cleaner prone to leaks, so I wound up machining my own fittings too.

My personal experience with over hyped ISR mods, replacement air cleaner systems, "restrictor plate removal", etc... is they make a lot of noise but don't work. I replaced the plate and tube on my wife's 4Runner after reading another members experience here and sure enough, the vehicle runs many times better. That plate does indeed provide a ram effect to the airbox. Save your money and don't buy the Downey kit, buy mine instead.

K & N FIPK GAINS over a stock intake = 3 HP at 4400 RPM

This tells you all about the supposed restrictive nature of the stock intake.
It sure is nice knowing that my stock intake has worked since day one, and will continue working without issue. It's also nice knowiong that my stock paper filter offers supreme filtration in my 4x4, and that I have the next best protection to water infiltration to my intake next to going to a snorkel.

True that. I have had countless dried up mud puddles in my air box. I love the way that thing is designed. Some one at Toyota was thinking when they designed that.

True. Being a D/D and wheeler, our 4/Runner and truck have the expected grunge at the bottom of the airbox but the intake side of the air cleaner is always dead on clean. And the crap at the bottom of the box isn't that much either.
