Downey aux gas tank

Does anyone remember the Downey aux fuel tank? It mounted above the spare tire and had a separate filler neck. What I need are some pictures of the tank, the hose connections and the filler neck.

There is company that makes them for about $650.00, but that's a bit more than I can afford right now.

Downey didn't make the tank, it was made by Northwest Metal Products (http://www.nwmp.com/) - Downey resold it under their name.

I have one in my 4Runner that I want gone..... Unfortunately shipping would make this impossible or me...
I have thought about using it as a fuel cell for my trail truck....

What would you want for the tank?

Shipping should just be a large box and the tank would need to be cleaned of fuel.

You can also get another Gas tank from junkyard and make it work. just fab up a mounting bracket.
I moved mine from the original location to where the spare tire used to be. ..

Wasnt there a limited edition desert version Sr-5 that had an extra big fuel tank? If you could get a part number for that, that may also be something to think about.

Generally done on the 2nd gens:

I have the NWMP tank in my '85. It works fairly well, but after raising the main gas tank 3", I find the gravity feed no longer works reliably (main tank is now the same height as the aux. tank). So I am working on adding a transfer pump between the tanks. I think the current NWMP tanks have this pump setup, part of the reason the cost went up.

yeah, check out Roger's link. I moved the one that was mounted on the side...The D-shaft was kissing it at full flex. I haven't finished it with protection yet... You can use the existing holes and make a bracket to mount to the frame. I have some pics but not the mount. I'll take some pics for you later.

There was a member here a few yrs back that was making his truck into a custom expedition rig he took a tank from a 70's Jimmy (I think) and mounted it between the frame rails at the back... plumbed it to the main tank with a transfer pump I think...
Had to relocate spare though...

Link may already be quoted above, I don't remember the exact thread title this was about 4-5 yrs ago lol...

Here's my stock gas tank mount. Keep inmind that I have a 2" BL so you might have to mane the tank drop down more than mine. I did have issues with the inlet tubes pinching the body so I had to JB well it once. So watch out for that too.

trying to buy this one, not sure it will work. It's from a 95 4 runner and I have a 87 pickup.

Talked to NWMP and they where going to fax me some stuff, but never did.

Pretty sure the frames are similar so far as distance between the rails goes, and the spare tire carriers are virtually identical except that the 95 is cable and the 87 is chain. I'd give NWMP a call and ask again just to be sure.

I sent NWMP an email a long time ago asking for a copy of the install instructions so that I could remove mine without problem.. Again, they never got back to me at all....

well, I picked up the one in CL. It looks like it should fit, but I might need to do some mods.
