Can't disagree with any of what you've said.....
There is enough compute power in any of the cars designed in the last 10 years to produce better logic for all cases. Nothing more than a programming problem. The car has all the sensory information at the computer... in the case you site, the car should shut off any heavy draw when voltage gets to 12.2v where it is at risk of not starting next time you get in. It could post a warning at the dash, in case you needed the lights for some emergency more important than the next start, requiring an override. If you don't take the option, it should shut down, assuming you did not mean to continue the heavy discharge because you were half sober at the bar... for instance.

My wife's Sienna will shut the lights off after a few minutes if you leave them on. My old Subaru wouldn't leave the headlights on with the key off. Which is how it should be - I've never figured out why you would want to have your headlights blasting without the key in the ignition.....it won't let you listen to the dang stereo like that which would be more useful.....but I digress....
