The car has all the sensory information at the computer... in the case you site, the car should shut off any heavy draw when voltage gets to 12.2v where it is at risk of not starting next time you get in. It could post a warning at the dash, in case you needed the lights for some emergency more important than the next start, requiring an override. If you don't take the option, it should shut down, assuming you did not mean to continue the heavy discharge because you were half sober at the bar... for instance.

Yea, I see what you're saying and I tried that. All combinations of the door/overhead light. Still didn't do it. Interesting attempt though. The light went off when the door closed. I just don't get it...
