Power locks? The doors "unlock themselves" if you close them with the key in the ignition; you could have a bad key-detection switch.
Does you ignition key turn in the lock? If it won't turn, the key (or the lock) is bad. Just because the key works in the ignition doesn't mean it's a good copy (the ignition lock could be really loose.)

Does your runner have power locks? If not I think thats how they're supposed to work, maybe a way to help from accidently locking your keys in the car. My 85 is the same way. And I've also had seperate keys for locks and ignitions before but I'm not sure if that was factory or not.

Mine is a '94, but back in the day many cars (and trucks) with manual locks required you to hold the handle "up" (open) when closing to keep them locked. I'm guessing you don't have the original owner's manual, so perhaps someone with your vintage truck can educate me.
I suspect that it came from the factory with a single key, but some time in its 27-year life the ignition lock might have been replaced. Most locksmiths can rekey the door locks to match the ignition, but removing the door locks is non-trivial. This might give you some insight: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...t-work-254772/

In it's original condition, the ignition and the doors locks are keyed to the same key.
As was mentioned, either someone has replaced the ignition lock, therefore the keys will not unlock the door lock, or there maybe damaged done to the door lock cylinder itself.
