Doing a ISR mod this weekend.

I read up on it all the time for the 3.0's and it sounds like a great mod. plus mine needs a tune up.

i have brand new spark plugs and wires but going to replace all my water hoses and do a isr mod.

so wheres the best place to pick up the equiptment and what should i get.

i know most of it but im using this as a thread to do it. so give me ideas ill get it done saturday.

LOL SO since you've done it yourself does it help out that much? better throttle responce? this 3.0 doesnt have much power. but i can burn out my 35's with ease with my 35's and hit 90 on the freeway pretty easy.

I honestly didn't notice anything. Perhaps the throttle response was a little better, but no power or mileage gains..

I would do it again in a heartbeat tho. The stock intake is a mess, takes up SO much room!

My stock intake was falling apart from dry rot, so the ISR mod was cheaper then getting a used intake.

I have done it. It was a fun project and it sounds better when you step on the gas, but honestly i haven't noticed much of a difference either. But when you look at the difference between the two setups the isr mod is definitely more efficient than the stock setup.

if it sounds faster that makes it worth while hahaha. I'm doing mine this weekend and adding a cone filter. not expecting much but I'll enjoy the new sound for sure. Using autozone intake (spectre I think??) chrome 3" tube which is a perfect fit and the spectre cone filter.

has anyone noticed better mpg's? it would seem possible to pick up maybe 1mpg maybe...

DO NOT USE THE AUTOZONE INTAKE!

It will break off and a piece will get sucked in your throttle body, happened to me the other night. The plastic gets so brittle from the heat cycles.

The intake tube from autozone is a plastic POS with fake chrome on it. DO NOT USE IT!

Spectre makes a good metal one though that is easily adapted for the ISR and is like $40. I can't remember the model number but it's on a thread here somewhere, just search ISR.

spectre has been making great parts for a while and your story is a rare one. the most common problem with these is over tightening. maybe you should make it known your post is an opinion based on an incident instead of just dismissing the product as crap..

with that said, I have the "crap" plastic intake parts on my car and have had zero problems with them..

I did not over tighten it. It was cracked from all the heat cycles, here in oregon the temp changes alot, all the temp changes made it crack. It worked fine for 8 months, I didnt touch any clamps for maybe 5 months before it broke apart.

And for $40, what a waste of money. I went to lowes and bought a 45* piece of sch. 120 pvc tube for $5, went to my work, drilled 2 holes and called it good. No more cheap crap from vatozone.

If all you're looking for is more noise, go for it. But if you want something that actually works pony up for this:

http://www.sbfilters.com/s.nl/it.A/id.976/.f

When I bought my 95, the flex hose off the TB was cracked, I purchased a CAI off e-bay for $50.00. I got me by, but was a POS & a PITA. It hit the master cylinder, moved around, & the fittings didn't seal worth a damn. I was getting ~ 16mpg, & the car just didn't feel like it ran right.

Coughed up the coin for the S&B. It's pulling cold air from behind the headlight, & runs like a Singer sewing machine. I'm now getting 19-20mpg unless I have a very heavy foot, then it drops to 17-18.

It was money well spent.

BTW 1995 4Runner SR5 4WD 3.Slow

Here is a link to the ISR mod thread. Lots of pics, lots of ideas... some are totally hoopty and some look like they came directly from the factory. Great info

bshinn, nice kit. Finally did my ISR today, here's the link to my thread with a couple of pics. Didn't use the Autozone Spectre tube ($40 chrome one) because it doesn't fit! Will use it on my SC'd tacoma instead. I used some electric piping on the 3vze, turned out great

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...-a-209859-new/

LOTS of noise at idle, a moderate amount on acceleration/cruise and not much power but a lot better throttle response; it sure feels like there's more pep. Next will be to advance my timing a little bit and maybe lean the sucker out at the air meter (i'm running alcohol injection so I'm running pretty rich)

Just noticed on the kit above my post, the 5/8" hose is after the VAFM, shouldn't it be before it?

Also, did the filter adaptor come with the kit? I had to fab mine from plastic, couldn't find one that small to fit on the VAFM
