I have an 1986 truck with a complete swap over of a 1989 enigne, the engine has great compression and everything, but will not idle, and when it trys to it just dies. But if I give it gas it will keep running, but it is reall hesitant! I checked the codes and it is telling me code 24 which states that is intake air temperature sensor. So I am assuming that the Mass air flow sensor has something to do with this, While I was looking at the wiring you can tell when the people before me had this truck they did some wiring with splicing around the connector to the Mass air flow sensor, But doesnt code 24 have to with the mass air flow sensor? Thanks.

 

First it's not a MAF, it's a Vane Air Flow Meter (VAFM). They work differently than a MAF.

Second, which engine/transmission are we talking about?

Third, the Intake Air Temp Sensor IS part of the VAFM assembly. Sounds lkke they might have FUBAR'd your VAFM.

 

It's a Volume Airflow Meter not Mass Airflow Sensor.

 

judging by the fact the truck was originally an 86, i think it is safe to assume that it is a 22re. Why anyone in their right mind would swap a 3.0 into a 2.4 bay is beyond me.

Now that the above posters have cleared up an confusion as to which particular part you are referring to.....

try pulling the EFI fuse (15 amp, lower left corner of the fuse box behind your drivers side kick panel). Leave it out for a couple minutes with ignition off. Plug back in and see if your problem still exists. You might get lucky.
