I have a 86 4runner (150 k miles) I think is running ok now, but I m not so sure how much can I trust it, does it worth it keep it for off road?
Can anybody can share how far has gone with a similar rig, or how much trust in his old 4runner.

If reg maintainance is kept up (oil changes etc) and its driven nicely and common problems are resolved,
it can EASILY get to 220k. Ive heard of 280k

I've an '86 with 212k miles on it. I bought it needing repair, but it was USED! After the needed repairs the mf'r was more reliable than any vehicle I've owned....and still is. It's f'ckin' tough!!!!!! These vehicles are far more worth restoring (if used) than many vehicles ever manufactured. They are top of the line. After all, they have built the reputation of reputations for their reliablility....if you don't go installing a ton of cheap aftermarket crap made in China. A few things you can get away with, but not many. I met a woman who had over 600k miles on her 22re p'up....and sounded an ran terrific. Repair it right and you won't regret it.

mine went 270000 before reman engine. keep up on ALL maintenance - belts hoses, filters, lubes, plugs, wires, distributor, etc. no reason that truck cant run well, just takes a little time and money!

keep it for dd and off road.

Old ones

my tuck is an 86 with 235k. Burns some oil, rattles a bit, rides a little rough, but still gets me into Rubicon spring once or twice a year. It still has ifs up front, inchworm 5 to 1, lock-rite locker, sliders etc.

At that mileage, its just getting broken in. Of course it is worth keeping. Look for the Top Gear Toyota video ion youtube or anywhere. That will answer your question. A bit over the top, but you'll get the idea.

Probably not trustworthy, I would suggest cutting your losses and just giving it away. I have some room in my driveway, I guess you could give it to me.

I have a set of 15x10 alloy wheels and a set of running boards I will trade you for it and believe me, I would be doing you a favor. No need to thank me, I just hate to see good folks driving a lemon.

Like the other members have said, you should cut your losses and donate it to one of us, specifically ME. I will be sure to get it to a junkyard for a minimum fee.

I would trust it with my first born child j/k It's the best engine Toyota ever made in my opinion. Just be glad it's not a 3.0 although I like my 3.0 they are prone to alot more probs. mostly blowing headgaskets. Just read up on the 22re they are widely known for their longetivity

Blowing headgaskets are the only thing there prone to. With proper preventive maintenance and headers, a 3.0 can last longer or as long as any 22re.
