Just joined. I know I am bumping an old thread but my 87 turbo 4runner just started having the same issue. I turned on my heater and the digital cluster started flashing... but it won't stop now. I have owned the 4runner for about a 2 months and never had an issue, even with running the heat. Can you elaborate on the grounding issue that you found? I would really appreciate it. Or if anyone else has had this issue and has insight. Thanks!

I've found that when my digital dash is flickering it's usually caused by the dimmer function button... i can give it a few turns and the flickering stops...

He connected the primary efi ground (thick wire) to the lower intake is what I am reading.. (Which BTW shouldn't have had any effect on the dash)

Clean up the ground in the kickpanel, fiddle with the dimmer, check your battery/charge system and that all the connectors are clean and firm.

Camry Gen 2 cluster

You may say "i'm sure it is..", but that is not the case with 2nd Gen Toyota Camry's (87'-91'), I know from my own and others experience. There are slight differences.

In the Camry world it is rare to have a digital gauge, so when someone finds one at the yard it is common to want to do the opposite of what you want to do. Just like you've noticed with your 4runner, there are different plugs and the wiring is different. For the most part, with the two diagrams from the manuals, you can rewire to the correct plugs. I started working on mine and then had to stop...wedding took priority.

You can see that I have the 87' and 90' electrical manuals. Blue painted fuel gauge senders are the digital ones. Rheostats (dimmer switch) may need to be swapped out also, I know for the Camry it does.

I know I'm 10 years late to the party but I was wondering if you still had the digital cluster because I have an 89 Camry wagon and I want to install a digital cluster but I haven't been able to find one anywhere so Ive been doing some detective work trying to find one any way possible.
