I got bored today so I decided I would finally extend my differential breathers. Nothin fancy, just got some black hosing from ACE and took off the stock diff breather cover and slid it over the top then clamped it down, this is probably sealed all the way but just to be sure I put a nice bead of Blue RTV gasket material all the way around the tube. On the other end of the tube I put window screen over it and zip tied it. I ran the rear extension to the gas door and drilled a hole next to the gas filler to run the tube through. In the front it was the same process except the other end was ran up into the engine compartment.

Total cost: tube $3 clalmps $2 and I already had the gasket material laying around and the screen was free so thats a total of $5

During lunch break at work yesterday I ran to the hardware store around the corner and got a couple brass npt fittings and did mine in the parking lot

 

I also love doing little projects during work breaks.

 

Good call Great way to insure your diffs stay water free. I did the same method but I eventually got some brass fittings and re-did it. I feel more confident in them now.

 

Yeah, you only have to extend the rear with IFS cause only the a arms move in the front, but yeah there is plenty of slack...

 

Just curious: Did the NPT fittings thread into the housing? Or did you have to cut new threads? I thought they were metric threads and therefore wouldn't take a standard NPT fitting?

 

I had to cut down the threads on the fittings a little bit to metric. Working at a paintball store has it's benefits such as access to a complete tap and die set and a full set of tools. I think you could thread them in without cutting them though and seeing as the fittings are brass they'll cut down in your diff without damaging the female side threads. I definitely had to cut down the 90 fitting I used in the front diff though as that was aluminum and I wasn't about to start forcing that in.

 

Is mounting the breather in the gas cap door really a good idea? I have had my gas cap submerged in water countless times

 

I ran my rear breather up in between the bed walls up behind the rear inner fender liner. It's at the top of the bed rail level.

 

I ran mine up behind my brake lense It seems to stay dry there.

 

I have other problems if I go that deep....

When I did mine I ran the front one up behind the wiper motor, and the rear one into the cabin and about a 18" up my first gen roll bar.
