Diff is toast...need San Diego help

Need recommendation on a good driveline shop.

My diff went out today.

** Symptoms **
Slight hum/roar the last 2 day that slowly started to increase until this morning when it started to buck badly. The sound would go away if I pushed in the clutch.

I had it towed to a gas station. the mechanic there ruled out the xfer case, drive shaft and bearing. He is breaking it open now to check the ring and pinion which he suspect is the problem.

If I can get a good recommendation, I would like to have them button it backup and leave the DS off and drive in FWD.

The truck is close to my work in Kearny Mesa.

I'm expecting a call this afternoon on what they found out.

Call a salvage yard for rear end pricing...using FWD will only prolong the pain..it will eventually wear out.....only faster!!!!!!!!!

I've got a locker, so a swap isn't really that cheap for me. I just want to drive in FWD to get to another shop or home to buy me some time.

My rearend hummed\roared for 6 months,,,diagnosed the problem as wheel bearings...thay had apparently had moisture in them from loading\unloading a jetski at the boat ramp. $100 bearings\$200 labor

abalagtas,

My rear diff began roaring a few months ago. Toyota said I needed a complete diff change. Like the post above mine, it turned out that it was only wheel bearings (a big $$$$$ savings). Get an opinion from a trustworthy shop (not the dealership). Better yet, get two different opinions.

See the link on my trouble:

Then it's related to the clutch and NOT the rear end.

My guess is the throw out bearing.

Check for play at the pinion shaft, Sounds like pinion bearing.
If it was main diff bearings it wouldnt matter if he put the clutch in or not.
