Seems like all I see are 6 cylinder engines after the 1st generation.......is this true? Thanks.

Anybody know the ratio of 4 cylinder vs. 6 cylinder in the 2nd and 3rd generation 4runners. Just curious.

Yes, they did. I have seen a few here and there but the 3.0 is more common

I tend to believe the 22-re second gen is somewhat of a rare bird.

I searched for 2 months for a 4 cyl second gen (or 4 cyl 3rd gen I could afford). I had a former toyota car salesman (since '95) tell me there were lots sold and they should be easy to find....but there were a LOT more sold in 2wd (I wanted 4wd). I finally came across one. I would be suprised if the second gen ratio was any more than 1 to 7. I bet the 3rd gen is more like 1 to 5. I tended to find a lot more of those for resale.

It wouldn't let me link it, but go to ebay and put in 1995 4runner. here's the item #4630143832 Its buy it now for $5900. It looks nice, but has 192,000 miles on it. Currently the bid is at $610 Oh and its a 5 speed, so that's a plus.

I believe its 1000:1 v6:4cyl. I was talking with Marlin at Marlin Crawler when I was thinking of the 3.4 swap and he said he had never seen one as new as a 95 with a 4cyl. He was actually shocked I had one, but they do exist. They also put the 2.7 is 4runner thru 99 I think, but still pretty rare.

I have a 1990 2wd 4 cyl. It's been a great vehicle. I've owned it for 10 years now.

I have a '93 4Runner with 22re and g58 5sp. What is truly rare is the 4cyl 2nd gen with factory hubs and the w56 tranny. They were only on 1990-93 and darn few at that. I looked forever for one then finally gave up.
The funny thing is that when you do find a 4cyl they are often somewhat cheap in what IMO should be a vehicle in high demand.

Back in the fall of '89, my grandfather purchased one of the first 2nd gen 4runners that our local dealer got in as a retirement gift for himself. It's an almost completely loaded 4cyl w/auto tranny. It came with the P225 Dunlops on chrome wheels...no external spare on this one. It only has about 53,000 miles on it. Every now and then he takes the cover off it and backs it out of the garage to give it a little fresh air. Also, my cousins wife had a plain jane '90 4cyl w/ 5 speed that they retired with well over 200k on the clock. The PA winters got the best of that one as it rusted away...

it should be noted that the 4 cyl in the second gen is NOT the same 4 cyl in the 3rd gen. for the 3rd gen and tacoma's they went to a 2.6L 4 cyl (or something crazy big like that)
