Hello everyone,
I've just finished a rather difficult but satisfying Weber 32/36 installation on my 1987 XtraCab 22r:
I'm extremely pleased with the results, however during my various modifications I noticed a fluid leaking, and splattering on the upper side of the "forward deflector shield" under the oil pan. Try as I might however, I've been unable to locate the source of the leak, UNTIL THIS MORNING! It's been somewhat sporadic, but today I actually caught it in the act:
That little green dribble (NAPA 50/50) IS the source of the leak, it's not running down the engine, I'm pretty sure it's leaking from the bottom most point on that gasket. HOWEVER, I COULD BE WRONG.
The fluid is definitely BOTH oil and coolant, and I'm quite concerned as to it's origin.
Thoughts? Concerns? Quick fixes?
Let me know,
Much Thanks!
-Jackson
P.S. Let me know if those inserted images didn't show up.
Maybe slightly juicy on top, rather hard to see the bottom (lot in the way) but I did manage to spot a little pooling on top of that front cover piece from the photo.
Two questions:
1. Would a mixture of a oil and coolant be indicative of that? And two, can you recommend a good cheap water pump? I was just looking at:
Pretty sure that the 'Evergreen' stuff is Chinese slave labor goods.
I have found that the Evergreen gaskets are poor, for sure.
You'll cuss that junk when it starts leaking again sooner than later, or the bearing fails and sends the fan thru your radiator.
I just bought this w/pump and thermostat combo for a 22RE rebuild that is in progress.
A bit more expensive, but real Japanese made parts. If you're gonna keep your truck, don't put 3rd rate replacement parts in it. Shop around, I might not have found tha absolute cheapest price.

I second this methodology. Longevity is what you're seeking if you plan on keeping the truck, not cheap prices.
Struggling student, struggling artist, or just struggling- Sometimes cheap isn't so cheap.
While it's true some cheap parts do have a lifetime warranty the question is how many times do you want to go through the free labor of replacing them, and you never know where you'll be when parts fail or what the weather will be like while you're fixing stuff.
Failed cheap parts can also help take out other parts that you'll have to replace and or a towing bill thrown on top of the parts list.
Thanks for the input everyone. I think I'm going to go with this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOYOTA-22R-R...RmwpU#shpCntId
I'll probably end up needing all of this down the road, and I've heard great things about engnbldr.
Engnbldr is great. Anymore I just get oil, belts, and other consumable parts at the part store. A number of online sources to get OEM parts for about the same price as part store and much better quality. Trying to save one or two dollars on a part will usually come back to bite you.
