Question In desperate need of help with power window

Hello everyone,

I recently bought a 86 4Runner with power EVERYTHING!!! I am having trouble with the passenger window. The drive side window works and so does the door locks on both doors. The passenger window does not work at all (from the master switch on the driver side nor the switch on the passenger side). I took apart both switches and cleaned them and even messed with the window lock switch. I put a voltmeter on the wires right at the motor on the passenger door and both wires are both getting 12V when the switch is pushed up and when pushed down. Shouldn't only one of these wires be getting 12V? I have also jumped the motor off the battery and it works fine. I am really trying to avoid bypassing the rely by the pedals. I have searched this discussion forum and have not found anything to help or someone with a similar problem. Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Sounds like you've got a broken ground at the relay. The relay applies 12v to one side of the motor and ground to the other, and does it in the opposite direction to reverse the motor. If there's no ground at the relay, you'll see 12v on both sides of the motor, as is your case.

Sounds like you might have a cut/loose wire. Get a multimeter and start testing for continuity.

Thank you for the response. With respect to the bad or broken ground, any idea if it would be in the relay itself or some where between the relay and switch? Also the guy before me said it use to work on an off. Could it be the switch?
