Alright, so the O2 sensor on my PU is bad; ECU's throwing a code 21

it's a 91 Pickup short bed 4wd 22re federal emmissions

has only one O2 sensor just before the cat-converter


I thought I could figure this mess out, but WTH?


looking at applications for Denso sensors, I show 3 that match per the description!!!

looks like its the last one of the three for the link you posted , cali has the 2 the 3rd is yours i think.

First two are Cali: 1st is the sensor behind the converter, 2nd is the sensor in front of the converter,
#3 is all others.... including RN10* chassis, which yours is, correct?

this will be the last thing I buy for this truck for some time...

putting all my money towards a new place...

and even... deep breath... now exhale... considering buying another vehicle (an 04 or newer Acura TL)... in which case I wouldn't be keeping the Toy... but there's a story behind it...

but that would be a couple months down the road if I do this




BUT, I plan on replacing this dang O2 sensor imediately... this thing drinking a tank of gas every 5 days! and I'm sick of looking at my CEL...

 

umm. okay yeah, so you're getting the A/F mix rich code?
Have you contemplated moving the O2 sensor closer to the engine? (just a thought)

 

you know, I could do this, because I have a mounting point on both the intermediate pipe after the header extention (which is where the O2 is currently at), and then there's another on the entention that bolts to the header

might do that tomorrow afternoon... maybe... but I might get lazy and just do it over the weekend, we'll see, lol


that would move it forward maybe 2 ft or so; would that REALLY make that much of a difference???

 

considering the temp on the O2 sensor bears a lot on its readings... it might.
Many carb'd vehicles had it right on the exhaust manifold so it got readings right at the head.
Our trucks have electrically heated O2 sensors placed farther down the exhaust stream....
I wonder why?

But I am not saying this will fix the problem.
