Declared "Unsolvable" cold start screech...?
So, I've had this loud "Screech!" that screams out of my truck at every cold start, and intermittently, at every five or six starts after that. I've replaced all belts, inspected the idler pulley, alternator etc. After pulling my hair long enough, I decided to look for a local Toyota Guru.
As we don't have an independent toyota shop anywhere in the Seattle area (seriously consider this if you have the skills), I phoned a few Subaru independents and the like and asked advice about the best local Toyota guru. Well, it lead to one dude. A super cool guy on the eastside (I'll withhold his name due to the nature of this post). Anyhow, he spent the day inspecting my truck for the squeal and found the culprit:
"It's in your bellhousing. A lot of toyotas have this startup squeal. You could go in, disassemble and replace everything, spend hundreds of dollars and it will show back up a week later. It's not worth it, I always advise people to just leave it, it won't hurt anything and might eventually go away."
Can anybody confirm this? It drives me nuts. The guy was cool, he swapped my oil out to mobil one (I brought it in) and spent a ton of time inspecting my car (found a loose tie rod from recent alignment and a few loose hoses) and only charged me sixteen bucks.
But GOD I would pay 100 bucks to banish this ˟˟˟˟˟ squeal.
