I was driving to work at 4:30 a.m. this morning & not one, but TWO deer ran out in front of me on a curve! I was doing about 55 miles per hour so I hit the brakes hard & I split the difference; one hit me on the driver side behind the door (dent) and the other hit below the passenger side headlight, bending back the bumper & valance & displacing the upper parking light & destroying the bumper parking light. I didn't even stop. This is the third time I've hit deer with this truck since I moved here in 2001....I'm sick of these little b@stards!

On the plus side; it's completely driveable; only cosmetic damage~

EDIT: I just remembered it's the FOURTH time I've hit or been hit by deer here in the past 8 years~

Sorry to hear this.
This was one reason the ARB bumpers were created.

Deer cause quite a few accidents too when a driver swerves to avoid them.
Best not to swerve to avoid them (rollover in the works) but to hit them straight on like you did.

 

An ARB bumper is not going to protect you when they run into the side of your vehicle, which is very common.

I live in Lusby; it happened just off Rt 4 in Prince Frederick (I cut through town on the old road to avoid the construction/traffic/lights)....

It's only sheet metal; probably won't even do anything to it. It was totaled out after the last deer incident in 2004; I've been driving it on a Salvage Title since then! Looks pretty good for a salvaged vehicle, huh? (This is the GOOD side):

Every year there are a couple hundred moose that get hit by motorists on our highway between Anchorage and Fairbanks.

Luckily, my Ford Probe is down for a heater hose replacement so I was driving the truck; otherwise, it would have been bad! This truck is an effin' deer MAGNET...

sorry to hear about that. atlest its still driveable. i used to have a cavalier before my yota and i was taking it to meet someeone that was was wanting to buy it and a deer ran into me. i didnt hit it, it ran into me. i had my drivers window down and it came inside the car. its hoofs scuffed up my dash and door. i was screamin like a school girl

get a bull bar. You'll chop the deer in half without doing anything to your truck. I had one on a suzuki sidekick. My uncle totally creamed a deer one night and dint do a thing to the sidekick.

fun fact: In australia, they call them "roo bars". That's why ARB bumpers are so thick, they're meant for larger animals. ARB bumpers are on just about every 4x4 in the outback.

the heaviest bumper in the world won't help you if an animal decides to run into the side of your vehicle...
what probably happened here was the deer were feeling randy chasing each other down the road not paying attention when TN came around a bend...
the deer froze for a second and then tried to run away... they just ran in the wrong direction is all...
remember folks animals that are feeling "anxious" {heh heh} have "other" things on their minds then traffic safety...

 

It didn't look like they were doing anything except suddenly deciding they needed to be on the other side of the road...they just burst out from the foliage on the left side of the road, hell bent for leather toward the other side. I didn't have time to do ANYTHING but hit the binders & steer between them~

 

Incidentally, I can't help but brag I got 18.46 mpg on my last tank & that's driving 70 miles per hour...
