18 years driving my truck, never hit a deer (jinxed myself now!!).bought an itty-bitty car for good gas mileage and my wife put a deer over the hood one night (less than 3000miles on that car / was brand new). ditched the little car (sold it) and will never drive a car again.

guess i am the only one with a good deer story. 87 corvette in high school, girl was umm... anyways, deer ran into the side of the car. T-boned my freakin corvette! I was more in pain than see what hit me because of.... she got startled.
but it made a scratch on my transistion moldings, the ones that run down the side. I went back to being cared for after that.

As an ex Lusbian I know all about them deer up there. They are all over the place. Glad you didnt get hurt!! Hey did you by chance go down to Solomons Island for the 4th. Love the fireworks display. We had a few across the river on the Saint Marys side just past the mouth of Town Creek.

We went up to the one near Chesapeake Beach on the 3rd. The 4th was spent relaxing around the house~

I've heard those deer whistle things actually are'nt so good... they attract the deer out of the woods to the edge of the road to see what the fuss is before it gets loud enough to drive them away... but by then you are on top of them and they may spook right in to the road in front of you...
anybody hear different on these things?

Insurance companies have done studies on the whistles (it's a billion dollar+ per year expense) and found ZERO affect. The lucky jerk who designed them sure made out, though!

This is one of those goofy things where the theory behind it makes sense [I mean make noise in the bush when hunting and see how many deer you see... not many right?...] but the practice does'nt work... and why would it? after all that "ultra sonic" whistle thing is the same idea they say "attracts" dogs [though I've never seen one of those work either] so why would it not "attract" other animals as well...

Those things suck...I had a buddy that put them on the corner of double sun roofs on a van. Once you get up to about 55 you could hear the things screaming!!!! Terrible things they were. And I also have seen a few cars with the bumpers all bloody with fir and the smashed whistle on the front.
