custom 4runner top build aka (the crew cab build))

hello everyone im giving this another go around,i've made one before but it was a bit too short in length for the rear passengers to be comfy cause of the steep angle the rear seats were at. so i added 4" to this one should be alot better.......

so for starters here's what it looks like freshly cut,i haven't cleaned up any edges or any thing.

heres what i removed.and discarded if any one needs those rear windows they can have them ill ship but you have to pay shipping costs. the small piece is from the front section of top.

and heres how it will roughly look on my tr4 after i glass it back together

and this is how it looks with my modifed windows,i cut open the factory window frame and removed the forward square window shortned the frames and welded back together to make these ones.

and shot of the rear seats and there lean angle, not too bad and a whole lot better than before.

as for the rear window i will be using the factory unit but it will be removeable via a bolt in sill plate from in side and i will be makeing a rear bed wall behind seats.now for lots and lots of fiberglass and sanding and finishing.my hopes for doing this mod is that i can remove the tailgat and make a prerunner style rear tube bumper tire carrier combo and still have a seald cab when needed. it hardly rains here in az.but when it does it really poors like hell. so a removable window is a must.thanks for reading ill continue updating as this progresses.

I like it! Reminds me of a Subaru Brat on 'performance enhancing drugs'.

Also, your "under-bob" on the bed is really growing on me. It looks good within the whole body and adds some clearance without taking away storage.

Jeez. Tough crowd. I think this 4runner is firkin awesome.

@azdesertrunner, what are planning on doing for a rear bumper. I'm willing to give this under-bob thing a go, but I'm guessing that I'll have to bend my own tubing if I want a matching, low-profile bumper.

ok so its been 100 plus out so i have not done anymore glass work but to answer a few Q's....after i finish the top im cuting the rear wheel wells to open them up a little bit.but just a bit.then sheeting the sides of the bed with aluminum.building a custom tool box on each side just over the wheel wells though so i can fit a jerry can in the space behind the wheel well then ditching the tailgate.and build a prerunner style rear bumper and tire carrier to act like a semi tail gate.but the tire will lay flat.wtih just enough room for a cooler to fit between my new rear cab partion where the new top ends and the front of spare tire. it will be sick when finished.if i have time ill whip something up in turbo cab for a visual.

This is really cool. I keep wishing something would damage my rear cargo roof so I can cut the top off. I would love to do something like this.
