I didn't take a pic before I put it on, but I'll tell you the difference; one of the water jacket holes is plugged on each gasket, but let's it thru on the other side. That's the only difference. I'm guessing it's to force more water out the rear jacket holes to help cool the hotter rear piston areas (exhaust heat)...?

I made some pretty good headway last night before the mosquitoes started to pick me up and carry me off. I have the right head on, but the left has to wait due to damaged head gasket (came in the package this way!):

Here's a pic of the shiny, new knock sensor (it's criminal what they charge for this stupid thing):

Cleaned heads before assembly:

Compare those to before:

...and more pics at various stages:

I'm not possitive, but I'm pretty sure the FSM says that you can warp the heads if you don't bolt and UNbolt them in the correct order, or to the right specs. But usually that's not done on a regular basis.

You can definitely warp the head if you don't use the correct bolting/unbolting procedure for heads in general and I am using the FSM extensively. I haven't seen any other posts to this thread by pruney81, so I don't know if he's still around....
What did you mean isn't done on a regular basis? Correct or INcorrect procedure?

Freeze plugs came with the engnbldr rebuild kit. They are in case the coolant freezes for some reason so it won't bust the block open...they are made to push out first. I think the holes also help in the engine casting process.
Are you talking about the large nut on the oil cooler journal? It's 15/16ths ". There are three o-rings/seals inside you'll have to replace...all are included in engnbldr's gasket kit.

What progress the only advice I can give you is get yourself a themo cell . It,s a gadget that runs on butane and heat up a little blue pad on the heat source. it put up a invisible force field against sketers knats . I use one hunting . They keep away .They say it's a 15 ft radius . I swaer by mine . I think B.J.'s has them onsale for $15. keep up the great thread

Here's what an air chisel, 150 psi, & 5 minutes will do to rusted up cat joint bolts:

Got a little more done today; spent a lot of time cleaning up the old parts I'm putting back on due to missing head gasket; it sort of looks like Quasimoto now with a hump on his right shoulder!

sorry..forgot to rotate the photos...

Well, I got my new HG from Ted yesterday, but not before I tried to fit in the lifters on my head....the machine shop skinned up the journals around the vavle springs and now they won't fit in! GRRRRRR!!! I am NOT happy about this!!
SO...I decided to make lemonade and replaced my front axle bearings/seals and installed the new(ly rebuilt) calipers & bled the system. Works great! I also put on my new Tacoma/Tundra alloy wheels/tires. Whaddya think?

Wait, so the bucket that fits over the valve spring and holds the shim wont go into where its supposed to due to them fubar'ing your heads? I'd be absolutely LIVID....
