Cranks real strong - but won't start!!

ok - blew the fusible link last weekend while trying to jump start my 87 4Runner. Did a bit of a work around by removing the fuse from the equation now and she cranks real strong, but she simply won't fire.

If I spray some cleaner in through the air intake / throttle plate she will splutter / fire - but just won't continue running. Almost like no fuel is getting in there. Is there a fuel relay / fuse somewhere that maybe I also fried when the Fusible Link got knocked out?

Is there a simple way to see if I have any fuel pressure?

you can check the efi fuse in the passenger side fender fuse box.

also you can crank it, and then pull a plug, and see if its wet with fuel. no fuel on the plug would indicate an issue with the fuel system.

could also be other issues like weak spark, lack of compression. Ether (starting fluid) lights up pretty easy.

You mean the fuse box inside the engine bay yes? I don't see anything marked as EFI on the layout map thing on top.

Or is there another fuse box somewhere I'm missing?

do you have the 22r, or the 22re? the 22re will have the efi fuse. the 22r doesent have efi, hence no fuse. on the 22r there is probably a fuse or relay you can check for the fuel pump, but i'm not sure.

It is an EFI engine.

Here is a photo of the fuse box cover which does not show an EFI fuse.

It's upside down - but it's definitely EFI!

Awesome - you're my hero. First fuse I pulled #9 appears to be the one. It was blown - replaced it and the Check Engine light now comes on and she fires up first time.

I prefer Carb - but I got a perfect little Off road rig for a total spend of around $1500 ($750 for the truck) so I'm happy enough with EFI.

whats with the "glow plug" and "diesel" fuses on the fender panel? is it a diesel or a 22re?

The Glow fuse is listed as the fuse box is obviously shared with the Diesel model. But in this case that slot is empty. It's a 22re
