cranks but no start

yes i did use the search but nothin that explained my problem.

i was doing a compression test on my motor it didn't look to good but it ran good before i did it. all i did was pull out the intake hose, the coil pack plug that connects to the distributor cap and all the spark plugs and wires.
After i put everythin back i put the key in the ignition i crank it to turn it on and all it does is crank. So i go over everything seemed ok crank again same thing, so i decided to replace spark plugs, wires, rotor, cap still nothin so now i am getting . I check all my mark just in case and they all good when my crank is at 0 mark tdc the distributor is pointing to the #1 cylinder. I sat down for a brake beer i decide to turn my distributor clock wise takes a couple cranks and it starts and i think to my self its lives i put the timing back to normal while the motor is running and it starts to misfire. So i pull the number one spark plug wire out while the its still running and i put it a 4/1 close to the block no spark so i touch the block then i see a small little spark.
Right now thinking it could be the distributor it self is not running properly.
What do you guys think it is?

sorry if my grammar isn't so good

Josh

Are you positive you put the wires back int he correct order? I'll admit that I have made that mistake before. Symptoms were just what you described. To test for spark though, they have a little spark tester at auto parts stores is ony about $5 and shows how much voltage its getting.

Also, if it's a 22re, you gotta short out the "data link connector" to properly set the timing. Should be a sticker under the hood to help show you where that is. Otherwise, I'm sure there's a post about it here somewhere.

My truck is a 1991 4runner v6 3.0.
Yes i checked all my wires to see if they are in the right place.
the engine runs when i turn the distributor clockwise but soon as i give it some gas it studders. but soon as i put it back to the original spot the studder is worse and after a couple seconds it just dies.
could the mass air flow meeter be a problem
