Crank, No Start. Need Some Help

1987 4Runner 22re Stick Shift

My truck is having some problems. I started it one morning and it ran good. Then I heard a loud ring going out the driveway (seemed to be from my radio) so I shut the truck off. Then when I went to restart it, it wouldn't start.

A day passed and I unhooked the battery and rehooked it back up together. Also noticed one of my vacuum lines to the canister was off so I hooked it back up. Then I go to start it and it started right up.

I started the truck up 3 times during the day and used it and all worked fine.

The next morning I go to start the truck and it won't start. It went back to cranking but no start.

The battery is good. I have spark to all plugs. The cranking is normal just won't start.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Check your fuel pump.

You can also try running a jumper wire between Fp + B in your diag box under the hood, that will force the fuel pump on when the key is in the on position. If that solves your start issue, then you have a problem with either the circuit opening relay or the fuel switch in the AFM

Thanks for the diagram. I replaced the air flow meter with another used one I had and I still have the same problem.

I shorted those two terminals and didn't feel any pressure in the fuel line and couldn't hear the pump run.

I put my multimeter to to fuel pump and got 10.4V only while cranking. And the I didn't hear the pump run while I was cranking.

Does that automatically mean it's a bad fuel pump? Or can it still be something else?

Thanks for the help.

Nothing is automatic, but a bad pump is my guess. The FP line goes straight to the pump, so if you have 10.4v there and no pump noise, I would guess the pump is seized.

I would do one more check of the FP line right at the top of the tank before I pulled out the pump; you could have a wiring issue. You should get the same voltage at the FP line at the tank as you do at the diagnostic connector.

I shorted Fp and B+ and measured 12.1V at the pump with the ignition on.

The pump did not run. No pressure was built.

Is there another step? Or can I conclude that the pump is bad?

Thanks again.
