Crank, fail to start '87 4runner.....
Looking to hit some local yard sales the other morning, and the ole junkrunner cranks and fails to start.
First failure to start in several years.
Jumper battery + to Fp on the diagnostic port and an ear to the open fuel filler says fuel pump not running.
Get out the Simpson 260 and put 10 amp DC range across Battery + and Fp and this time the fuel pump starts.
Meter says near 7 amps when the pump is running. Too much, says I.
Intermittent running??? Very bad. I often go to remote places by myself.. So.......
I open the back seat inspection hatch and remove the fuel pump hangar.
Appears to be unopened since manufacture. Original Denso type pump in place.
Has likely run over 30 years and near 300,000 miles.
Glad to have metric tube wrenches, the pressure hose union was very tight.
Happy to see no rust and corrosion. .
New Denso 950-0150 pump and sock. Spectra SQ LO32 hanger seal/ gasket.
New Denso pump draws a bit less than 4 amps.... that's better.......
Next time it fails to start, it won't likely be a fuel pump problem.,

I got around 4.3 amps to run my pump. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...-quits-312747/ Perhaps my sock is dirty. Your replacement seems like a good idea.

Couple weeks after the fuel pump job is completed, I go to the estate sale of an old semi-professional desert racer who passed.
He raced several VW classes, but he had a couple late 80's Toyota chase trucks.
I bought an old stock 23220-16190 genuine Toyota fuel pump for two dollars.
That's TWO DOLLARS. Toyota wants $300+ for one.
I guess I'll just have to buy another orphan truck that needs it.
