Fuel Pump Woes

Truck lost power when driving and left me stranded in a parking lot. Got it towed home and am starting to troubleshoot. So far it looks like the fuel pump is giving me grief.

When I jump the pump relay I can hear the pump running but it just doesn't sound right. If I remember right the pump should run with a steady constant buzz but this one will start to buzz and then sounds like it's varying pitch and speed.

Question is: can anything else cause the fuel pump to vary it's running speed? Bad pressure regulator, crimped line etc...?

I'm thinking it's the pump but want to check all other options before having to dropping the tank

What's really crappy is the pump was just replaced last summer with a so called "premium unit". Pump alone was like $150 bucks and I've only run about 7 tanks of gas through it.

Checked the receipt and it's got a limited lifetime warranty so I could probably take it in for a replacement unit but do I "really" want another crappy pump?

If anyone can recommend a good quality pump or have any ideas that point to something other than the pump please let me know

Really love these quality aftermarket parts
