could a new pcv cause high idle?

93, 4x4 22re manual trans. no a/c

this weekend i just replaced the p/s belt and while i was in there changed the oil along with the pcv and grommet

i've come out with a higher idle now, about 1500rpm it used to be around 800 rpm on cold start up

i'm wondering if i could have knocked something or if any part of the above procedures would cause this issue?

many thanks in advance for any thoughts on this...

My best guess would be that you disturbed/broke/undid a vacuum line......

x2, or could have disturbed the PCV grommet and it's leaking from that as well.

Could have also tore the PCV hose while replacing it.

Ricky B is probably right , but Your PCV valve is a controled vacuum leak and if you got the wrong size valve or a bad one( letting to much air through) then it could cause a high idle.

Those grommets can get really hard and brittle over time, which makes it difficult to get a good fit and seal around the PCV valve and/or valve cover.......

i'll check the vacuum hoses, maybe i knocked one loose while prying the old pcv out - that took me a good 15-20 minutes to pry that thing out of there

i did replace the old grommet when i did the job, and it went in easy so i doubt the new one cracked - is it possible to push the pcv in too far? or not far enough?

an pics of the proper positioning of the pcv?

thanks!

If I don't end up throwing my shop landlord off the loading dock tomorrow, I may be able to take some pics when I pull the intake mani off to do the gaskets, k/sensor and PCV.......

could this be it? i can't find a disconnected hose, but since the tip looks cleaner it makes me think a hose could have been attached, i'm wondering if that could be the source of my high rpms

also can someone tell me if, my pvc is positioned properly - is it sitting too high or too low? - i can push down a lot further, but that doesn't seem right.

yup, that disconnected hose will definitely cause a high idle/vacuum leak. Re connect that, and your PCV actually looks like it's in too deep, possibly even the wrong one. Mine was hella tight and would not go in past the lip that is on the PCV itself.

as for the pcv, it came from the dealer, but i guess that doesn't really mean a lot

it looks like there is a vacuum cap on that little 3-way port that it was attached to, not sure where the other end of that goes or it that cap being on there is even right. I don't have a 22re so I couldn't tell you for sure without looking at a vacuum diagram.

As far as the PCV goes, again mine is a 22r so mine might be different or maybe I got the wrong PCV valve from autozone lol.
