Coolant Leak Help

Stopped by the store on the way to work tonight, and when I came back out, I noticed a drip/puddle under the drivers side front of the motor. It was not pouring out, but a steady drip. I know its not coming from the water pump or over flow can. I know its a coolant leak, it has A/F in it. Any ideas on where it's coming from????

I checked both the lower hose and the bypass hose that is behind it. I agree, it SHOULD be pretty obvious, BBUUTT this one is a sneaky one. It is a real sporadic leak, not all the time, and varies in amount. It looks to be coming from the front corner of the motor. Most of the time it is when the motor is hot and there is pressure in the cooling system. For instance, today I looked and it had only dripped 4 or 5 drops, and the other day when it was leaking, it dripped like a faucet dripping. I checked the radiator water level and of course it was low, but it took less than a quart to fill it back up.

Possible to leak between the engine block and the timing cover.

Your best bet is to pressurize the system with a tester and look. That way it will be leaking without being hot.

Did you ever get this figured out ? Funny, I have the exact same problem. Guess I'll start with new hose then go from there.

Actually I did figure it out, apparently someone had the water pump off at some point before I bought it. They had blue glued the pump and didn't use a gasket. Fel-Pro to the rescue!

I hate to revive this thread but I've got a similar issue and I can't find anything else close. Essentially, I picked up a 94 4runner 4x4 v6 this weekend knowing it had an overheating issue. It had a motor with 50k miles swapped in last summer with all new gaskets and seals and a new water pump. Within the past 3 months the previous owner had a new radiator and new t-stat installed. No white tint to the exhuast and no oil in the water/ water in the oil. Yesterday I put on a new radiator cap, added prestone flush cleaner, topped it off, and burped the system. Ran for an hour with the heat on full blast and it didn't overheat at all! Rain came so I had to button everything up and when I went to go finish the flush today, I took of the radiator cap and had coolant coming from the driver side of the engine. Put the radiator cap back on, and it stops. (all while the engine is off) It's the weirdest thing because it didn't do this at all yesterday, and as long as the radiator cap is on it's fine but when I take it off it starts squirting out. Havnt been able to find the exact leak because it's in a hard to see place but I can post pictures tomorrow. Ran a pressure tester to try and get a better look, and it spews like a can of beer. Any ideas would be great.
