So i parked my truck today got out and could hear some water dripping, look underneith and sure and behold there was some coolant dripping down the back of my motor. Haven't dug into where exactly it is coming from, but it surely from the very back of the motor, just some drops. Anyone have any ideas?

 

Possible, headgasket, or softplug.

 

don't say headgasket please! any tricks on finding the leak when intake is off? it seems only to leak for 5mins after the motor is running

 

Do you have a 22R or a 3.0? If you have a 22R, there is a plate on the back of the head that can leak coolant. The heater hoses can also leak around the same place.

Of course the 3.0 also has heater hoses in the back that run into the cab. Lots of places it could be coming from. If you're using the Toyota red coolant it leaves behind a red tell tail residue that makes finding a leak easier.

Try using one of those mirrors on a rod (inspection mirror) to look around in tight places.

 

#3 or #5 coolant by-pass hose, possibly. Or the heater hoses.

OK, well i pulled the intake mani off. The coolant by-pass hose is kinked, looks like it would be restricting or even blocking flow for sure. no signs of cracked hoses, plus all the water that came out of the lines when i took the mani off hasn't helped finding this leak.

my major concern was a HG, but the more I think about it, the less I believe that a blown HG is the issue.
