Conversion the 4RUNNER to a pickup possibility?

As the title stated, can the 4runner be convert to a pick-up style vehicle? That will involve in cutting metal and fabric it to fit the bed. I am thinking of getting the pickup bed at a near junk yard and will do the work from there, I'm thinking the body mount is a fit on so that will be a good start. Any advice is welcome. If all esle fail then will someone that is parting out there 4runner, then I need body parts, click on link for more detail.

Whooo. Well, anything is possible man, but you are talking about A LOT of work.

I'd say you're best bet is to take this as a full custom job. Figure You'll be making your own body mounts and building it up from scratch. To be honest, it would be WAY easier to scrap the 4runner completely, find a pick up with a dead motor, and swap all your mechanicals into the pick up.

Good luck with it! Post up a build thread if you do it.

just sell the 4 runner or trade for a truck

most 4 runners are preferred over trucks anyways.
i would opt for a extra cab 4x4 though.

I vote that you sell the runner as well. thats a lot of work, and unless you are looking for a one-off vehicle, its completely not necessary, as you can buy a truck for about 1/4 of the cost of making a 4runner into one...

Why not do something like 4Hummer has. I have seen a few others on the forum do the same thing. If you really wanted to get crazy you could bob an old bed and make something that resembles the chevy avalanche. SUV and Truck...kinda

ha! not around here. trucks sell for double what people are paying for 4runners. no idea why, but it's definitely true.

or you could make it look like one of those double cab hilux's.

if you're talking reg cab its deff worth just trading it in, or direct swapping a cab off a truck with a blown engine or something

My friend is in the process of cutting the back of his 94 4Runner up. It will look like an avalanche. It has the 4 seats but the back has been cut off and the glass moved up.

If you have a sawzall and a welder you can do it with enough time. check out the 4runner buildup page at pirate4x4.com they do a lot of fab work...

I know this is an old post but I thought this might be interesting.
I just bought this truck, and I thought that it was a "pick up" 20R Carb 4x4 5 speed manual Manufactured Oct. 1983.

But once I got it home and started ordering parts with the Vin # I realized that it is a 4 runner!!!!

I had assumed the guy who had owned it and fabricated the diamond steel plate bed himself in his garrage had simply swapped out the old bed of a truck - but in fact he converted a 4 runner

Here are some pictures. I am pretty sure the bed was designed for hunting purposes... Still don't know how heavy this thing is !!Name: truck1.jpg

Why not just pull that quarter panel and mud it up? There is always a shop that will pull it to fix it just my .02

It can be done. Especially if the bodys are the same generation.makes things easier. I built my truck from 2 trucks. Used an 87 runner frame and mounted my 85 cab on it. I didn't use the bed. So just fitting the cab was easier. The 4 front most mounts line up, but had to cut and move the rear cab mount. This is a standard cab. Mounting the bed wouldn't be tough. Suspend it or set it on blocks where to want it and start fabbing your mounts in place.
