compression test

well i did a compression test the other day and the numbers are in and they are so so what do you guys think?

1991 3.0 v6 motor


1: 156psi
2: 167psi
3: 155psi
4: 125psi
5: 140psi
6: 172psi

Well all are on spec except for #4. They are supposed to be 140 and above for the V6. But you don't want to have them jumping all over the map like that. Also it would help to know how many miles are on the motor. Is it running poorly? Or did you just do a compression check for fun?

the motor has 193597.7 miles on it its been running crappy for a while i tuned it up new plugs cap wires rotor timing belt timing belt backside idler pully tiing belt tentioner pully put a cold air intake system on it. i think it finally be doing a little better but not like it was when i first bought it.

The 3.0 is very hard on exhaust valves. Especially #6. If the plugs show little to no oil consumption then plan on pulling the heads when you get tired of driving a tired motor. A new valve job will perk it up and increase your fuel mileage.

They do seem all over the place. I'm wondering if you have some gunk that's keeping some valves from seating properly.

I would do a heavy Seafoam type cleaning on it, maybe adjust the lash on the valves and retest.

i seafoam the motor every other oil change i just replaced the timing belt and back side idler pully and tentioner pully it was locked tight as could be. could that be some of the prolbum.
