Complete SAS info?

Guys, needs your help, I've been reading about SAS conversions for a while now, I've been reading about it and seeing photos and all that, but there has not been an actual SAS thread were one starts from scratch.

All the threads out there either have the SAS kit welded on or the front axle already for install.

I'm looking for a thread were someone uses a front toyota axle into a pickup with leafs, a complete thread from start to finish.

Do you know of any thread like this?

The reason I'm asking this is I'm about to purchase a front complete front axle from an 82 or 83 truck, and I'm planing on SASing my '91 extra-cab.

This is something I've never done before, and would like to do it from the beginning.

I already have my eyes on the front hanger kit and miscellaneous stuff.

But I need a guide.

Like I said, I've searched and have not found a complete one.

So please, If you have any info on a thread that might help, please reply, if not and you are going to answer with a "look harder" attitude, just don't bother.

thanks guys...

Look harder.

Baha. Best way is to get out there and get dirty.

Im assuming youve seen the SAS sub forum, defiantly plenty of good info in there: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f152/

This is what he is talking about.

Personally, I favor a three link setup, but this works well too.

If you have to post this question you are not ready to do a SAS.

I'm with 85 turborunner. You don't sound like your ready to tackle a SAS

That being said , how are your welding skills? I am not a good welder so I had my brother weld my spring hangar on. You don't want that coming off!

I'm actually not that bad at welding, I normally use stick welders, that's what I learned to use since I was a kid, and that's what I've been using since.

I didn't tackle this before because were I live (south Texas), there aren't too many Toyota solid front axles. I have always owned toyotas, and I have had 2 85 4Runners, of which both I lifted and did gears on them, the rest of the ones I've had were all IFS (so far I've had 7 Yotas, 5 trucks, 2 4Rrunners).

I have always wanted to do a SAS, but again, I could not find a front axle, t'ill yesterday I found one in craigslist listed for 100 bucks complete, it even has the push pull power steering box.

So I picked it up and I'm looking for all the miscellaneous stuff.

And I'm also very mechanically inclined, I'm also a machinist, so if I need any custom plates or so, I can make my own...

So, yes, I'm ready for SAS....

Nice answer!

Working on this as we speak, going to get my 35's today. The best advice I could give you, since your looking for a write up to work from, would be to search the following:

toyota solid front axle rebuild (lots of write ups on this) toyospearo's seems to be popular)

Knuckle rebuild write up(although this is part of toyospearo's write up I think)

Use the Trail gear ifs eliminator instructions for referece (there are adjustments that need to be made depending on your set up)

DeathCougar's sheep build sas (I used this as a reference for pics of certain things)

Other searches that should yeild some results for you:

4x4 wire- axle build, driveline mods ect
marlin crawler forum (tons of info here)
Pirate 4x4 (tons of info here)

There are plenty of people on here that will help, If you search and ask specific questions (in your build thread) Most are pretty quick to help when they can. Good luck!

Awesome, then you should have also done research and not posted a question that gets asked over and over again.
