cold starts getting worse

I'm looking for pointers on where to start looking for a cold start issue I'm having. The truck used to turn over within 2 seconds on a warm morning. Now, it takes a few seconds more for it to fully turn over. Takes maybe 4 or 5 cranks to get it to start. (should also mention my tachometer spins in a full circle 1 or 2 times while cranking. quite a funny sight)

Anyway, it has just been like this in the past 2 days. I'm worried it might get worse so I'm trying to fix it before I'm stranded and unable to get to work.

Only thing I've changed that may affect the starting is the battery cables. I extended those about 3 weeks ago, but it's been fine since then.

On a cold cold morning like today and yesterday, it will crank and crank and then it will stop cranking on it's own (even with the key still being turned) and then the starter would come back and sound like it's just spinning. I'd release the key, and crank again. I'd release and crank again, only the third time it starts up quickly.

I'll get video tomorrow morning with my new camera :-) Of course, that's going to be the morning it starts right up.

I'm not sure I fully understand the symptoms you are trying to describe but I think you are trying to say you have weak starter. If you are turning the key and nothing is happening you may have bad contacts inside your starter. This is a relatively easy fix once you get the starter out and fairly inexpensive. Eric

No, it starts and the starter is engaging. The truck just won't turn over when cold. I'm wondering if it's the starter going out, but it seems fine now since it's been warm outside. Sounds like it is the CSI

Sure enough, as I predicted. I went to record it starting up and it started just fine. Grrrrr.

that's not a bad price at all. Thanks. I'll check them out if the problem persists.
