1. Check your gas cap
2. Purge Solenoid has failed
3. Your canister is not working correctly or is plugged

My 2001 is also throwing out a P0440 code. Gas cap replaced but I really dont want to mess with troubleshooting. Does anyone know how to bypass the system so the CEL doesn't come on and I can pass emissions? I know that sometimes resistors can be put in place of a sensor to trick the ecu. I would like to do something like this so I never have to worry about the evap system again.

You sure won't have to worry about the evap system from Federal prison.

42 USC § 7522

Okay, prison time isn't assured, but just the defending the lawsuit will cost you more than 5 or 6 brand new trucks. If you don't want to mess with troubleshooting, why don't you just take it someone who does it for a living?

Also, the air you're contaminating is the air the rest of breathe.

Have you even bothered posting in the correct group? Notice these are older model Toyota and most the time we deal with obd1 which is different then your 2001 vehicle so most people here don't deal with newer vehicles like yours. Also just take the bulb out of the cluster if your that worried about it. Like I said try the group that's made for your vehicle and the search bar does wonders...just saying
