Pre fabbed rear tire swing out for 2nd Gen 4Runner.

I'm looking for a pre fabbed rear bumper with swing out like this one.

Besides this company who else out there makes something decent?

I need it rather quickly as I'm going on a trip end of September for an extended period and I don't want to stuff a 35" tire in the cargo area again this year.

Thats a pretty tight deadline. All the tire carriers ive seen for 2nd gens are made to order. Usually 4week lead. Best bet is to find a local fab shop and tell them what you want, lots of photos then the deadline. But call TAG and find out.

I have options. I could get it sent to a mid point in my trip. Did that last year with my roof top tent.

I am also going to my local welding shop to see if they could modify my existing trail gear bumper. It came with the truck. I think that TG uses DOM tubing?

I think people have modified it to make it work.

Thanks for the reply.

My missus just pointed out that this is not a want for this trip. I'm recovering from back surgery and she pointed out that I'm not going to be able to lift my spare in and out of the back anymore.

Who else build bumpers besides TAC?

TAC has one in stock, maybe I'll get lucky with someone else as well?

Red face

I really can`t see any real difference but maybe just putting it in back inside is easier then putting it back on the mount.

up and in as compared to getting lined up to attach.

I had thought to build one of those swinging mounts but the more I thought and looked it would have been more in the way

TAG makes good stuff (Ask the pole i hit at 40 MPH. Their bumper saved my a$$)
Unfortunately they take an age to build and i don't think anybody else makes something similar. ARB maybe?

I have their tire carrier rear bumper on my 1st gen 4Runner. While I am happy with the over all build quality I was really disappointed with the paint quality. Save the money and paint it yourself.

Moving the tire around every day on a 6 week or more road trip will be worse than the once if I get a flat.

Glad to read some reviews on the TAG stuff. They have one in stock luckily. I think I'm about to order one.

You could always get a safari rack. Wouldn't be my first choice, and with your back you'd need help to get it up there.

Just another option .

Thanks everyone.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Mistakes happen though. I'm sure there are more happy customers than not.
