Check the connector housing - that is pins and the wiring harness, possible that there's a rust on one the pins or one of the wire is loose or about to break. Use a fine steel brush or a sand paper to clean the pins. For the wires, you will need to slide off the rubber boot to expose the wires.

71 is an EGR code.
Why are you mucking around the air-flow meter?

lemme guess... you drive around all day and no code, but 10 miles on the highway, maintaining highway speeds, and the CEL comes on?
